Clinical Assistant Professor
University of Michigan
Ann Arbor, MI, United States
Debbie Chen, MD is a Clinical Assistant Professor and health services researcher in the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Diabetes at the University of Michigan. Her research is focused on the delivery of thyroid cancer care and on access to cancer care for vulnerable patient populations. Her work, which highlights the unique challenges and perspectives of underrepresented patient populations, including Hispanic women with thyroid cancer and patients with non-English language preference, contributes to the conversation on how to create a more equitable healthcare system. Dr. Chen’s work has been published in high impact journals, including Lancet, JAMA Network Open, and Thyroid. Motivated by her study findings and the notable underrepresentation of linguistically diverse patients in research studies, Dr. Chen has helped to develop resources to support University of Michigan researchers in recruiting and including patients with non-English language preference in their research studies. Her research is currently supported by a K08 mentored research career development award from the National Cancer Institute.
