Dr Soham Tarafdar, MBBS, MD (Internal medicine), DM (Endocrinology), FACE, Consultant Endocrinologist at Manipal Hospital Kolkata.

I completed my foundational medical training at premier institutes in India, including Medical College Kolkata and Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi, before completing my Endocrinology fellowship at IPGMER SSKM Hospital in Kolkata. Here I was introduced to the world of thyroid research by my mentor Prof. Sujoy Ghosh. Here I was fortunate to work with my research and life partner, Dr. Susmita Dutta, who helped in developing methodologies focusing on the use of liquid biopsies to differentiate benign and malignant thyroid nodules.

Our proof-of-concept data—published in highly respected journals such as JCEM, EJE, and Endocrinology—demonstrates the successful application of liquid biopsy techniques to measure cfDNA concentration, assess the cfDNA integrity index, and identify driver mutations from plasma. Our research has been presented at multiple international conferences, and my contributions to the field have been recognized with the Young Investigator Award at ECE 2023 and the AV Gandhi Award for excellence in endocrinology research from the Endocrine Society of India.
