Badra Bashir, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), is a PhD candidate in the Translational Biomedical Sciences Program at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where she conducts research under the mentorship of Dr. Darlene E. Berryman. Her research focuses on the role of growth hormone signaling in immune aging and immunosenescence, with particular emphasis on age-associated B cells, splenic immune remodeling, and the mechanisms through which altered growth hormone action regulates immune function during aging. Using growth Bovine Growth Hormone Transgenic (bGH), Growth Hormone Receptor Knockout (GHRKO), and Growth Hormone Antagonist (GHA) mouse models, her work investigates how changes in growth hormone signaling influence immune cell populations, inflammation, and longevity. In addition to flow cytometry and histological analyses, she is expanding her expertise in single-cell and single-nucleus transcriptomics to better understand immune cell heterogeneity and age-related changes in the immune system. Her long-term goal is to integrate endocrinology and immunology to identify mechanisms that promote healthy aging and longevity.
