Dr. Laura Abaandou is a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Metabolic Diseases Branch at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), NIDDK. Her current research focuses on engineering thyroid cancer cell lines to modify cell-surface thyroid hormone receptors using advanced CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing. Prior to this role, Dr. Abaandou spent several years within the NIH Biotechnology Core optimizing recombinant protein expression, and worked as a Research Scientist at Integrated BioTherapeutics developing vaccine and antibody therapeutics against severe bacterial infections. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, including The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology and Biotechnology and Bioengineering. Dr. Abaandou holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and Biochemistry from George Mason University and an M.S. in Biomedical Science from Hood College.
