Natalia Vázquez Colón, MS, is an epidemiologist, data scientist, and public health researcher affiliated with the Puerto Rico Institute of Statistics. Her work focuses on data modeling and automation, predictive analytics, and dashboard development, with research interests including type 1 diabetes, food insecurity, insomnia symptoms, psychological distress, and health disparities in Puerto Rico.
Natalia has collaborated on multidisciplinary projects with government agencies, academic institutions, nonprofit organizations, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She previously worked with the CDC Dengue Branch and the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), where she conducted analyses of cervical precancer disparities, temporal trend modeling, and dashboard development for public health monitoring systems, including dengue surveillance initiatives in Puerto Rico.
She currently works as a Senior Scientist at Lilly del Caribe, Inc., where she supports automated process monitoring programs, multivariate analyses, and advanced analytics initiatives involving complex datasets for operational decision-making. She also collaborates with the Puerto Rico Institute of Statistics on projects involving the deaf community in Puerto Rico, including dashboard development, data collection, and data analysis, as well as pediatric type 1 diabetes surveillance initiatives. In addition, she collaborates with the Puerto Rico Comprehensive Cancer Center through PR-CEAL, providing analytical support for clinic readiness and breast cancer screening initiatives related to the MAMO study.
She has experience developing interactive dashboards and visualization tools. Her research emphasizes innovative and data-driven approaches to improve disease surveillance, identify disparities, and strengthen evidence-based public health practice in underserved populations.
