M. Regina Castro is a Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine where she is a consultant in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Nutrition. She obtained her medical degree and Internal Medicine specialty degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela and after moving to the USA completed IM residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and her endocrine training at Mayo Clinic. She has been on staff at Mayo since 2003, currently serving as the Endocrinology Fellowship Program Director. Dr. Castro has been involved in clinical practice, education, and clinical research, with a special interest and emphasis on thyroid disorders, and thyroid cancer. She has been an active member of the Endocrine Society for over 20 years. She has also been a member of the American Thyroid Association where she has served in many capacities including the Board of Directors and as Chair of patient Education, Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force and as President of Women in Thyroidology. She has received the WIT Woman of the Year Award (2022) and Distinguised Service Award from the American Thyroid Association (2023). She currently serves as the preseident of the American Thyroid Association (2025-2026)
