Professor Ben Wheeler is an academic Paediatric Endocrinologist with Health New Zealand and the University of Otago (based in the South Island of New Zealand). He serves on the Council of the Asia Pacific Paediatric Endocrine Society (APPES) and is current chair of the APPES conference scientific program committee. He is deeply committed to improving the lives of people living with diabetes—both young and old. He was recently awarded the Beaven Medal by the New Zealand Health Research Council for excellence in translational health research that has had high impact on clinical practice and patient health. He runs a busy research team focused on advanced diabetes technology, youth and emerging adult populations with diabetes, and advancing equity in diabetes care. He has published extensively in these areas with over 150 publications, including clinical trials investigating next-generation automated insulin delivery algorithms and their implementation in children, adolescents, and indigenous populations with above target glycemia.
