Dr. Alison Affinati, M.D., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at University of Michigan, where she studies central nervous system control of glucose and energy homeostasis. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and completed M.D. and Ph.D. training at Northwestern University under the guidance of Dr. Joe Bass investigating the role of the circadian clock in glucose and lipid metabolism. She then joined the Physician Scientist Training Program at University of Michigan, and completed a residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Metabolism, Endocrinology and Diabetes. Her post-doctoral work was with Dr. Martin Myers studying how the brain controls glucose metabolism. In addition to running her laboratory focusing on understanding the mechanisms through which the hypothalamus regulates glucose homeostasis and body weight, she also takes care of patients with diabetes and obesity.
