Rok Herman was born on April 10, 1996, in Celje. In 2022, he completed the integrated second-cycle Master’s degree program in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana. After completing his internship at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, he continued his professional work as a resident physician at the Clinical Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, University Medical Centre Ljubljana. Since October 1, 2023, he is a resident in internal medicine at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana. Since the academic year 2022/23, he has been enrolled in the doctoral study program in Biomedicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, where he is currently in the final year of the program, with a research focus on brown adipose tissue and its activation during obesity pharmacotherapy. His research focuses primarily on obesity and related endocrine disorders, particularly adipose tissue biology and its modulation by pharmacological therapies, with an emphasis on translational and clinically applicable insights.
For outstanding academic achievements, he received the Professor Janez Plečnik Award in 2018. In the same year, he was awarded the Prešern Recognition of the Faculty of Medicine for a student research project. Since 2018, he has been a member of the research group at the Clinical Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, University Medical Centre Ljubljana, where he has authored or co-authored more than 15 articles published in journals indexed in the Science Citation Index or Science Citation Index Expanded. He is also the author of several professional articles published in Slovenian journals. In 2022, he received the Prešeren Award of the Faculty of Medicine and the Krka Award for his research work. As a lecturer, he has actively participated as an invited speaker at several national and international conferences.
