After completing his doctoral thesis on the regenerative potential of stem cells for inborn liver diseases, Philippe Lysy spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Susan Bonner-Weir at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, studying the role of pancreatic progenitors in insulin beta-cell replacement strategies. As a pediatric endocrinologist, he then joined the Pediatric Endocrinology Unit at Cliniques universitaires St. LUC (UCLouvain), where he currently works at the Faculty of Medicine, with clinical and basic research activities focusing on the mechanisms of development and on the clinical outcomes of type 1 and atypical diabetes, obesity, and rare endocrine diseases in children. Philippe Lysy is group leader at UCLouvain (EDIN), head of the Specialized Pediatrics Department at CUSL and former president of the Belgian pediatric endocrine society (BELSPEED). He is also active in associations for the development of educational programs in sub-Saharan Africa (PEDAF).
