Dr. Sarayu Ratnam, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrinology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Her research focuses on pediatric metabolic health, translational endocrinology, digital health innovation, and community-engaged research aimed at improving outcomes for children and adolescents with chronic endocrine and metabolic conditions.
Dr. Ratnam has extensive experience supporting and managing NIH-funded and industry-sponsored clinical research studies in pediatric endocrinology, including studies in obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, Prader-Willi syndrome, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and sex chromosome aneuploidies. Her current interests include biomarker discovery, behavioral health, and the development of innovative digital and peer-support interventions for adolescents with endocrine disorders including type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
In addition to her research activities, Dr. Ratnam is passionate about creating community-centered programs that promote physical activity, social connection, and quality of life for youth with endocrine and genetic conditions. She has helped develop family camps and activity-based wellness initiatives for children and adolescents with Prader-Willi syndrome and Klinefelter syndrome, with a focus on inclusion, confidence building, and long-term healthy lifestyle behaviors.
At the Endocrine Society meeting, Dr. Ratnam will present research examining associations between circulating oxylipins and metabolic outcomes in children from the HAPO Follow-Up Study cohort. Her work explores how lipid mediator pathways relate to adiposity, insulin sensitivity, and glucose regulation during childhood and adolescence, with the broader goal of identifying early biomarkers and mechanisms underlying metabolic disease risk.
