Dr. George Alexiades Stamatiades, MD, PhD, FACP, is an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Associate Physician in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Dr. Stamatiades earned his MD and PhD with highest honors from the University of Crete, Greece. Following medical school, he pursued postdoctoral research training in the laboratory of Ursula Kaiser at Harvard Medical School. His work focused on the mechanisms underlying GnRH pulse frequency–dependent regulation of gonadotropin (LH and FSH) synthesis and secretion.
He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Yale New Haven Health–Bridgeport Hospital followed by fellowship training in Endocrinology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. During fellowship, he continued his research in reproductive neuroendocrinology under the mentorship of Victor Navarro, studying the role of KNDy neuron components in regulating gonadotropin release.
Dr. Stamatiades joined the faculty at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School after completing his fellowship. His clinical practice focuses on neuroendocrine disorders, and his research centers on the reproductive and metabolic complications of Cushing’s syndrome. He is the recipient of the 2025 Casey Toolin McAuliffe Memorial IGNITE Award for his work on sex differences in Cushing’s-related complications, and his K08 award supports ongoing research on the role of AgRP neurons in these processes. In addition to his laboratory work, he is actively involved in clinical research and serves as a co-investigator on a Phase 1/2 trial evaluating an MC4R agonist for hypothalamic obesity under the mentorship of Vanita Aroda.
