Rahaf Sultan, MD is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at University of Pennsylvania. Her clinical and academic work centers on providing comprehensive, evidence-based care for gender-diverse individuals, with a primary focus on gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), reproductive health, and long-term metabolic and skeletal outcomes.
Dr. Sultan has a particular interest in bone health in gender-diverse patients and has presented institutional data examining the prevalence of low bone density and osteoporosis in this population. She participates in clinical initiatives focused on identifying individuals at high risk for progression and in implementing teplizumab infusion protocols as part of stage-specific prevention strategies.
Dr. Sultan serves on the Steering Committee of the Endocrine Society’s Transgender Medicine and Research Special Interest Group (TSIG), contributing to national educational programming and collaborative initiatives in transgender care. At Penn Medicine, she is Co-Chair of the Endocrine Community Network and is deeply engaged in medical education, teaching medical students, primary care residents, and endocrine fellows with a focus on gender-affirming hormone therapy and patient-centered communication.
Her overarching goal is to enhance equitable, evidence-based endocrine care for gender-diverse individuals across clinical, research, and educational domains.
