Muriel Babey, MD, is an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism at UCSF. Her research defines how central neuroendocrine pathways regulate skeletal remodeling and marrow adiposity during metabolic stress. She identified brain-derived CCN3 as a circulating regulator of skeletal adaptation during lactation (Nature, 2024), establishing a female-specific brain–bone axis. Her work has been recognized with the Endocrine Society Early Investigator Award and the ASBMR John Haddad Young Investigator Award (2025).
Dr. Babey serves as Co-Chair of the Endocrine Society’s Bone & Mineral Special Interest Group, leading national programming that advances scientific exchange, mentorship, and community in skeletal biology. She currently leads NIH K08–supported translational studies to improve skeletal health across the lifespan.
