Dr. Camilo Daniel González Velázquez is an endocrinologist and academic clinician whose work centers on thyroid disease, oncologic endocrinology, and medical education. He completed his training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León and later undertook advanced thyroid cancer research at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York as a Gerald Gutiérrez Memorial Scholar. His clinical practice combines academic responsibilities with specialized endocrine care, with particular focus on minimally invasive therapies such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA), an approach that seeks to reduce surgical morbidity, preserve thyroid function, and promote individualized treatment planning.
His doctoral research is focused on the application of artificial intelligence to improve prognostic stratification in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer. This work aims to integrate clinical, pathological, and imaging data into predictive models that may enhance risk assessment and long-term management decisions. In parallel, he maintains active collaborations with established thyroid centers in Latin America and the United States, contributing to shared research initiatives and multidisciplinary academic efforts.
Dr. González Velázquez also participates in the TIRO (Thyroid International Recommendations Online) initiative, a digital platform designed to harmonize and continuously update international thyroid cancer guidelines. His scholarly work includes studies on thyroid cancer outcomes, postoperative biochemical monitoring, therapeutic strategies in hypothyroidism, and health equity in oncology care in Latin America. Additionally, he has supported initiatives to expand access to evidence-based thyroid cancer information in Spanish, helping reduce linguistic barriers and promote informed patient participation in clinical decision-making.
