Antonio Moschetta received his M.D. from the University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy, in 1997 and his Ph.D. from Utrecht University, the Netherlands, in 2001. From 2003 to 2005, he was a research associate at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in the Department of Pharmacology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas, USA. After being group leader at Mario Negri Sud Institute, scientific director of IRCCS Istituto Tumori "G. Paolo II" of Bari, the Dean of the Medical Degree Course at the University of Bari, and Chair of Residency School in Internal Medicine, University of Bari, Italy, he is currently Professor of Internal Medicine at University of Bari and Coordinator of PhD in “Metabolism, aging and social medicine”. He is also Chair of UOC Internal Medicine, Policlinic of Bari, Italy. His research focuses on the relationship between nutrients and disorders related to the gut–liver axis, with a special emphasis on the role of nuclear receptor-mediated transcriptional programmes in cholestasis, and hepatic and colon cancer. His scientific contributions have been recognized by many invitations to present his work at leading institutions around the world, as speaker in University Lectures and member of PhD commissions, and as speaker, chairman and organizer in international conferences. Moschetta received several grants as Principal Investigators, recruits ample peer-reviewed funding, is member of funding bodies’ advisory boards and has been asked regularly for his expert opinion in the press/media. He has been awarded several prizes including the David Williams Award (2011) from the Aspen Lipid Conference, the Rising Star in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (2012) from the United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW), and the Richard E. Weizman Award (2014) from the Endocrine Society. He has published more than 200 original research papers, a personal H-index of 61 (Scopus) and total citations of over 16000.
