Dr. Halfdanarson is a Professor of Oncology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and a Consultant in Medical Oncology at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Halfdanarson earned his medical degree from the University of Iceland and completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Iowa followed a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Mayo Clinic, Minnesota. Dr. Halfdanarson was on faculty as a medical oncologist and neuroendocrine specialist at the University of Iowa after completing his fellowship in 2007 until transferring to Mayo Clinic in Arizona in 2012. He has been a Consultant in Medical Oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota since 2015.
Dr. Halfdanarson is the Chair of Education in the Department of Oncology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota and Chair of the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Disease Group for Mayo Clinic Enterprise. He also serves as the Co-Chair of the Pancreatic Cancer and Neuroendocrine Tumor Board at Mayo Clinic, Rochester.
Dr. Halfdanarson specializes in GI oncology with a focus on neuroendocrine malignancies and cancers of unknown primary. Dr. Halfdanarson is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines panel for NETs, a President Emeritus of the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (NANETS) and Co-Chair of the NET Group within the Alliance of Clinical Trials in Oncology (ALLIANCE).
