Carly Kelley is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University and an endocrinologist specializing in transgender and gender-diverse health care. She serves as Medical Director of the Duke Endocrine Ambulatory Clinic and Director of the Duke Adult Gender Medicine Program, which she established to expand access to comprehensive, evidence-based gender-affirming care.
Dr. Kelley is WPATH SOC8 certified and a national leader in transgender health, serving as Chair of the Endocrine Society’s Transgender Research and Medicine Special Interest Group and as the founder and Co-Chair of the USPATH Research Committee. Her work spans clinical care, research, education, and advocacy, with a focus on improving access to care, reducing health disparities, and advancing evidence-based practices for transgender and gender-diverse individuals. She has authored numerous publications and delivered invited presentations at regional, national, and international meetings on transgender health and health equity.
Dr. Kelley is the Principal Investigator of the DREAM Project (Duke Research for Equitable Access to Medicine), a multidisciplinary research initiative focused on improving equitable access to health care and expanding our understanding of gender-affirming hormone therapy. Supported by funding from Duke and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), DREAM included community engagement efforts to identify research priorities among transgender and gender-diverse community members. The project also supports studies examining health outcomes among transgender and gender-diverse individuals. Her current work includes a Duke-funded study that leverages PCORnet infrastructure and Duke electronic health record data to evaluate cardiovascular and mental health outcomes associated with hormone therapy.
