Dr. Hurtado is an endocrinologist and physician-scientist at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, where she practices in the Division of Endocrinology and the Bariatric Center. She earned her medical degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, completed a Ph.D. in Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Florida, and went on to complete her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Endocrinology fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
Her clinical and research work focuses on obesity and related metabolic disorders. As a member of Mayo Clinic’s Precision Medicine for Obesity Research Program, Dr. Hurtado focuses on individualized obesity management strategies aimed at optimizing patient outcomes, with a particular focus on perimenopausal women.
She serves as Co-Director of the Mayo Clinic Nutrition and Obesity Research Program and holds national leadership roles with The Obesity Society and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Her work has earned national and international recognition, including the 2024 Mayo Clinic Department of Medicine Young Investigator Award and the 2026 American Association of Clinical Endocrinology Rising Star Award.
